World Primate Sanctuary Care And Rescue September Newsletter 2023

TOUGH MONTH

This month has been incredibly slow and difficult financially and voluntarily. We spent much time with the monkeys cleaning cages and giving them lovies.

BUYING

We also bought lots of welded mesh and small chicken wire to secure the bottoms of each cage to secure them from hungry rodents (mice and rats looking for food).

Dog foods are also under control to prevent pigeons nesting in rooves and excreting on rooves.

We have also been buying 30 kilos of Ace Flavoured porridge, one for each day, plus kilos of macaroni and rice and mince and palony with toppers to extend. Mixed veggies are added 1kilo packet a day. Yogurt of course 1 litre a day and so the list goes on.

NEEDS

Always in need of: lactogen baby milk, macaroni, rice, noodles, mince, toppers, palony, chicken, tinned bullybeef, tinned spagetti and beans, fresh vegetables like potatoes, butternut, green beans, fruits – apples last long – and we go through 1.5 kilo a day, pawpaw, grapes, bananas we buy once a week and use that for a fruit salad and have to use it first due to their short shelf life. I even buy boerewors and fish fingers as a treat. A few times, if I can, I buy a texan steak and cut it into small pieces for a treat for them. I don’t mind cooking or preparing as most people know I’m a vegan vegetarian but working with it is fine.

Watching the monkeys eat well is so rewarding for me. Healthy monkeys with a variety of food helps their immune system.

Outdoor Cages are also needed and we will fetch them should anyone like to donate.Or even welded mesh 13mm by 25mm or small roll of small chicken wire would be greatful.

RAINS

After two lots of rains, we now see the goggas coming out. Also spiders flooded by their rock homes and snakes that  hibernate then go on the move. We found one snake luckily not in the monkey cage. I didn’t kill it. I just relocated it. Bees will be coming out soon and many of you will see the ants and flies for a month or so, all around, to frustrate us! Bacteria is also on the move as the weather changes. Those of you who have monkeys please watch stools very carefully and daily. I train my students and volunteers how to detect potential problems and to be observant.

Remember that the smaller the monkey the faster the heartbeat and therefore the faster their sickness develops and the less time we have to cure. Time is imperative therefore I am extremely strict in this regard.

SAVED ILL MONKEYS

As per the above and because of people acting fast, we have manged to save a Capuchin’s life and four red handed monkeys lives, one cotton top and four marmoset’s lives!

THANK YOU

Lastly, we would like to express our gratutide and thanks to  those who have been able to help us. We really appreciate your help as we totally rely on the publics’ help and the government is still struggling to help animals.

Yours faithfully
