World Primate Sanctuary

Care and Rescue

All Primates Need Care

Originally founded in 1992, World Primate Sanctuary is a non-profit organisation that provides education and care for capuchin, tamarin, squirrel and marmoset monkeys. We aim to bring an end to the abuse and neglect of small exotic monkeys caused by general public unawareness and the prolific increase in the keeping, breeding and trading of exotic animals for the predominantly ignorant and unlegislated pet industry.

Support us in our monkey-saving mission. Help make a difference.

Founded in 1992

by Wayne Macleod

From an early age Wayne Macleod developed a deep fascination for exotic monkeys and later went on to study them in their natural habitat in the Amazon.  Wayne originally founded the organisation in 1992 under the name Marmoset Care Centre which in 2001 changed to WPS Care and Rescue due to the growing species of monkeys being rescued and donated to the organisation.

Through World Primate Sanctuary (WPS), Wayne and his team fight abuse and negligence of these exotic animals by spreading awareness through education and outreach programs and by providing care for rescued monkeys.

Support Our Mission

Our mission is to bring an end to the abuse and neglect of small exotic monkeys caused by a lack of general public awareness and the prolific increase in the keeping, breeding and trading of exotic animals for the predominantly ignorant and unlegislated pet industry. In order to accomplish this our focus is on educational awareness, specialised care and emergency rescue.
